• You own a single unit residential housing or residential building with no more than four units,
• Your household annual income is at or below 200 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI),
• You have not already had a free/reduced-cost assessment; and
• You provide 12-months of utility bills.
The audits must be performed by a participating Building Performance Institute (BPI) accredited contractor in the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program.
Interested residents must first submit a completed GREEN JOBS-GREEN NEW YORK FREE/REDUCED-COST ENERGY AUDIT APPLICATION to receive a Reservation Number along with terms and conditions from the Program Administrator. Additionally, the home owner must provide a summary of the annual electric and heating usage for the property (a utility bill that lists annual usage and/or a 12-24 month summary from an oil or propane vendor). Once you received the registration number you must complete the residential energy audit within 90 days.
Why should you have an energy audit done? An energy audit is the first step to assess how much energy your property consumes and to evaluate what steps you can take to make your property more energy efficient, more comfortable and provide a heathy environment to live in. An audit will show problems that may, when corrected, save you significant amounts of money over time and enhanced the value of the property.
Remember an energy audit is just the first step. You need to correct the problems identified by the audits (add insulation, install weatherstripping, etc.) to realize the energy and cost savings benefits. The GREEN JOBS GREEN NEW YORK program is also offering low interest unsecured loan (homeowner provides no collateral) through Energy Finance Solutions to help pay for the home improvement work. Borrowers can finance $3,000 - $13,000 at fixed rate loan terms of 5, 10, and 15 years.
Only (BPI) accredited contractor accredited contractors participating in NYSERDA's Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program are eligible to perform the work identified by the audit. The accredited contractors on this list can assist homeowners interested with the financing option completing the documentation requirments.
The GREEN JOBS GREEN NEW YORK program is administered by NYSERDA (New York State Energy Research and Development Authority). Please visit NYSERDA's program website for more information on the program's free/reduced cost energy audit and financing progrm.
